Having been in the real estate business as an agent, broker, exchange specialist and instructor, I've been to my share of closings and dealt with and for a few attorney's.nnWhen I arrived here over a decade ago, I attempted to hire a real estate agent and attorney to represent my interests as I was not conversant with the details of NC Real Estate Law.nnMy experience with Dewey Keller's office than and on another real property issue since instructs me to recommend one do a bit of shopping before settling on Keller - Elder or otherwise.nnSome of the comments disparaging the competency and communication skills of the staff remind me of similar experiences on each occasion. Comments here about errors in legal descriptions and questionable title work are familiar themes.nnI am sure they know what they know and are able to do that reasonably well, but believe that attorney's better at drumming up business (possibly due to the lack of competition) then their staff is at executing the work when unfamiliar situations arise.nnVisit the office twice and ask questions before committing. You cannot take the word of a Seller, a Buyer, or even a Real Estate Agent and can't expect to prevail against a closing attorney who screws things up for you when you discover the issue twenty years later during a re-fi or when selling. Title Insurance is unlikely to provide the compensation you might have expected should you find yourself without a home and a check instead.
