Douglas Falls was great! Very beautiful and well worth the short hike in and out. I was able to hike in, spend some time at the falls, and hike out in about an hour and a half. The trail itself had a couple of fallen trees, however. Also the connecting trails to the Craggy's and Greybeard overlook were closed.

If you take the longer drive through Barnardsville and come into the trailhead on Forest service road 74 it's a 0.5 mile hike to a low flow waterfall. You also get the bonus of several roadside waterfalls on 74 that are worth stopping to see as well. I haven't been the other route from craggy gardens, but it looks to be 4 miles each way and much more challenging.

There are better waterfalls. If you want an extra easy hike to a crowded waterfall, at least in the summer, than this is the falls for you. Set Rock Creek falls and Roaring Creek Falls are much more interesting and not too far away from this general area. Look elsewhere if you want a peaceful waterfall experience.

This hike is NOT for the inexperienced. The hike itself deserves the highest rating- ONLY FOR those who are into high intensity, steep, rocky terrains. I’d suggest this for someone who enjoys camping between the return hike or is very experienced in outdoor endeavors. The falls are beautiful, although not in my opinion worth the 7.6 miles of uphill battle. There is a separate way to get here (0.5 hike from it’s own parking lot) The trail connects to a beautiful “Greyson’s Overlook” for an additional 2.2 miles.nnOverall- I made it and I’m still alive.
