Food Lion

If I could leave ZERO stars I would. My Husband, who has a disability, had an issue with his mask at the store, he was working to fix the mask situation, when a “manager” named Wyatt came up to him & started yelling at him across the store, in front of other customers, that he “needed to pay better attention” To the signs on the door about masks. (The mask sign on the door is FAR FROM being easily seen.) My Husband has a disability & isn’t required to wear a mask everywhere he goes due to it, but he often does still wear one, to his own detriment, so that he doesn’t have to deal with situations like these. This store showed ZERO concern as to whether or not someone may have a disability, & immediately starts berating the person, instead of trying to understand the situation & make the appropriate accommodations for them. The Maryland.gov site says, in situations like this, involving people with disabilities, that “the business should engage the customer in an interactive process to determine possible alternative methods of service.” I’m certain these “alternative methods of service” do not include a manager assuming a customer is trying to cause a problem or refusing to comply, without bothering to ask first. They should have, at minimum simply walked up to my Husband & asked, (IF he refused to wear a mask, but that was NEVER the case.) if they could provide alternative means of purchasing a good or service, again as the Maryland.gov site states. This is not what they did. My Husband ended up leaving the store bc of this treatment, & lack of respect & courtesy, not to mention the lack of “reasonable accommodations” he received. Then, to make matters worse, I went to the store to try to explain my Husband’s disability & the situation, & was told, “it’s 2021 who doesn’t wear a mask?” By this “manager”, Wyatt. I responded that some people with disabilities are not required to wear a mask & that the store is required, by the Government & the Americans with Disabilities Act, to provide reasonable accommodations to these individuals. This was met with further rudeness, & he then walked off in the middle of the conversation. I would think that Food lion would train their employees, especially management in these policies, but at minimum decent customer service. This is clearly not the case. So, the store just lost a customer that spends upwards of $1000 per month, & any other customers I can warn from going there & potentially having to deal with this sort of thing in the future. Any decent manager, or representative of any company, should treat ALL customers with professionalism & respect, & never assume they know about a person’s ability just on site alone, as was done in our case. I pray that this “manager”, at minimum, is given some type of training about accommodations for those with disabilities, but also about customer service in general.

Went in for a product and there was a new girl working who was off the charts helpful, I loved it, her name was Amy. Very cool.
