Prairie View Academy

My son started in Kindergarten and I am very pleased. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They have brought him out of his shell and he has learned so much in two years. He enjoys going to school.

Great school K-12! From the principal to the teachers to the groundskeeper. I would recommend anyone who has children to check out Prairie View Academy!

I can detail a first hand experience. I sent two kids through the school and my last one just graduated. It was the last 5 years that were unproductive. There were many occasions when there was no teacher in the classroom. Sometimes multiple days in a row. Some of those times no one ever even walked in to check on them. We signed up.for Spanish 1 and they had no teacher so we got18 weeks of French from a former student. After 18 weeks they hired a teacher that was there 3 days a week only and the other two days the principal was in the classroom telling them how they could become a millionaire working at Walmart. The next year was Spanish 2. Since nothing was learned in Spanish 1 the class voted to redo Spanish 1 and they did. The problem is my child's transcript reads she completed Spanish 1 and 2. They have a guidance councilor available one day a week. There are many kids graduating that have never met with the guidance counselor about their future plans. Ever! My child is one. Some of those graduating probably couldn't even tell you who the guidance councilor is. Last year's graduating class had many receive a diploma and did not complete all the hours needed to do so. They had hours that needed to be made up on Saturday's called credit recovery but the principal wiped those hours away without completing them. The students athletes were put on a bus for two years with no heat or air and rode to ballgames sometimes over two hours away with the heat index well above triple digits. Once I remember they rode home from Jackson, Ms with no heat and it was 18 degrees outside. They also had to pull over going to softball games and let people cool off on the side of the road because the bus was so hot. They also had an employee drive the student athletes around after drinking alcohol at a restaurant. No, that person was not let go. Still employed. Five hundred dollars a month for average act scores below 19. A school allowing a kid in that had been kicked out of multiple schools due to disciplinary reasons. Non existent guidance counselor. No teacher in classrooms on occasions and no consistent discipline of any kind. The school has two obligations. Provide a safe learning environment and provide a quality education. They don't do either. I tried to move my child three years ago but it was to late. I should have done it before high school started. There are stockholders pulling their kids, alumni pulling their kids and even faculty sending their kids other places. There is even a board member pulling their kid and choosing another private school. There is more than one board member sending their kids else where.
