Great day at Nehrling Gardens! Professional volunteers Barbara & Teresa are an asset to this beautiful oasis! So knowledgeable! Nice & informative presentation from the Aviary Volunteers about hawks, falcons & owls. David Chomanics had a nice presentation on the local butterflies & insects as well as a hybrid Florida panther! The entertainment was phenomenal and the artists hado exquisite art displayed! This year was there best Amarylis Festival thusfar!

Its a small garden, easily walked and plants bought within 1 hour. I had visited the Sugar mill gardens in Daytona and was hoping for a large garden like theirs. It's worth checking Neuring out and buying some of their original garden plants, started in pots. Dr Neuring influenced the folks who built Fairchild tropical gardens in Miami, a MUST see. I bought a seashell ginger, a blue ginger, a red spike and other gingers. Out front, they had bromeliads left over from a sale. I found 3 I didn't already have. The house was restored from the outside, closed to the public, but if you used the restroom, they allowed you inside. The gift shop is nice and I bought a bar of lye soap peppermint scent. Check their website as they're only open a few days a week. We visited for the 1st time while staying at a resort near Disney. And then eat lunch at the Yellow Dog Cafe. I had a wonderful barbecue salad. Its a quirky kind of place to eat. I'll be back in Dec when the gardens host unusual bromeliads for sale.

Nehrling Gardens is a hidden gem in the quaint Gotha community. It's has so many lovely views, quiet paths to enjoy, an abundance of wildlife, a historic home and it's a great place to learn about Dr. Nehrlings historic past, gardening, the environment and conservation. Plus there are enjoyable events throughout the year and many opportunities to use your talents to volunteer for this remarkable non profit that serves all ages of our community.

It is a site of Historic Gardens. This Saturday, December 14th from 9 to 3 is the Holiday Amaryllis Festival, vendors selling plant & garden items as well as food. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be there for photo opportunities. It is a lovely, family oriented, holiday event!
