This is a great place to hike and walk. I never thought a swap would be interesting to venture and tour, but this pandemic has you doing all sorts of things I never thought I'd do.nState park employees are there to monitor which hiking trail you go on. They take your name if you venture on the long trail, to be sure everyone is accounted for before they close the park at 5 PM

Interesting park with easily walkable paths. If you can stay to the end of the day when the ranger swings out the walkable bridge you're in for a treat. Cool to see how they work it.

Full of history, lots of wildlife. Walking and biking. Make sure you prepare for the walk with plenty of bug spray and water. Don't underestimate what the heat can do to you.

Super friendly park staff! The visitors center has a great collection of mounted animals and is very nice overall. I have been pretty impressed with the facilities at North Carolina State parks so far. There is a short boardwalk trail you can take or around 20 miles of trails through the forest swamp area. They are mostly very easy to walk or ride bicycle as they are essentially dirt roads. Some of the trails get quite bumpy with roots if you go off the main road trails. The ditches are pretty cool to see. A few small waterfalls can be seen from small dams. Spread along the Canal Road trail are a few picnic tables. The trails are very well marked and it has trail maps at the beginning of the trail system and once you get to the end of the main canal road trail (2.2 miles in) that gets you to most of the other ones.
