Looking for a quiet hike on the AT? This is one of the lesser visited vistas, about 3 miles in from Route 42, or 2 miles in from Route 601. Nice view, nice trail and great exercise! Be sure to check out the hollow tree, and peer inside. Very cool!! (Rt 601 access is unpaved for the last 1.5 miles, but OK for typical autos.)

The rocks make a nice picnic area with a good view. There's some small caves below to explore if you're careful. Hiking from 42 is the most scenic way to the overlook but also the longest route. It passes through fields, crosses Laurel Creek and the AT shelter before heading up the mountain. The shorter route from the gravel road (Route 601 or Rocky Gap Trail) begins steeply up for a half mile but then the trail rolls along easy ridgeline.

thennThe vegetation is a little overgrown so we can not see out far. The gaps between the rocks are little too wide for me to jump over so we stayed away from the edge of the rocks. Very little traffic, we have the mountain for ourselves. Very good hike!

Easily one of the best views since Springer (I'm a thru-hiker). It is a bit dangerous, as you have to jump over a bit of a chasm to get to the cliffs. If you like heights and you plan to be hiking in this area, this is a must see.

Really decent hike. Good overlook but folliage is starting to overgrow. Not bad
