Not only did a lot of people die... This memorializes that many mistakes were made too... All pretty depressing I must say. So much money put into preserving it... Why? So we can see the names of who spent money on a plaque? Yes, I know I should read more of the actual history. But isn't it all written the way they wanted us to see instead of encompassing all the true layers?
Wonderful place to walk and see what is was probably like in the 1863 battle for Fredericksburg. Wide open farm land offers an unimpeded view along the Union advance towards the Confederate positions on the high ground to their front.
The most important part of the Fredericksburg Battlefield, the battle was won or lost here, not Marye's Heights.
This place is beautiful. I just wish they would tell u about the house that is on the property.
If you want to really understand the Battle of Fredericksburg you should walk this ground. Or if you just want to talke a nice 2 mile walk.
