We went in winter which like most places up here have limited activities but it was a interesting walk around the old depot. The last run restaurant was very good, for the most part it was way better than expected. You get plastic souvenir cups with soft drinks which was cool. The macaroni and cheese looks like it was straight out of a blue box which was disappointing because lots of other things looked like they were made in house.
Gorgeous place to stay, especially during the winter. The houses aren't fantastic if you're planning on just spending all day in them, but if you're staying there just to go to snowshoe, this is the perfect place. The houses there have all the essentials, and there is enough room in them to house everyone you need
I could not be more pleased with our day trip. Parking was easy and everything was well signed. Upon boarding, we were handed our picnic lunch with an assemble yourself sandwich, tasty pasta salad, bag of chips, two cookies, and a bottle of water. You were free to move about your open air car to snap pictures. Next time we will be sure to bring a quilt to sit on, some additional snacks, and ear protection. The engine is behind you pushing the train up the mountain so you get the FULL effect of every whistle! The colors were stunning. The commentary was informative. We thoroughly enjoyed the 25 minute walk about at the top of the mountain overlooking the valley. When we got back to the depot we decided to grab dinner at the Company Store restaurant. It was typical hot sandwich style cuisine but the staff was friendly and the ice cream was quite scrumptious. We made the 3hr trip back home and were both recharged to return to real life the next day. A scenic fall ride should be on everyone's Bucket List and having done it once, we have decided this needs to become an annual day trip for us!
We stayed for 2 nights to go to Snowshoe, about 20 minutes away, and rented the 121 unit. Well worth the money and Cass is a nice town. There are only 2 restaurants. Rt 66 and The Last Run. Between the 2 we preferred Last Run. Would definitely come back again.
Been visiting Cass since I was a kid. My family has a vacation home in nearby Dunmore. Cass is always worth a visit. I had my 1st ever vanilla Coke there! And everyone needs to ride to Bald Knob at least once. The views up there are incredible...
