Sitka Self Charters provides incredible service with the highest quality skiffs to ensure safety and FUN while exploring the waters of Sitka Sound. Joel is very thorough at ensuring each boat is equipped with anything we may need and educating us how to use it all to the highest and safest capability. We appreciated all of the time and knowledge he shared with our family to make sure we had the most memorable experience we could and has been wonderful to get to know better!! Looking forward to more summer fun with you, Joel!!

The pictures pretty much tell the story. We self charted from Joel two days, 8/28 and 29 in 2019. The boat motor and electronics were in excellent shape. The fishing gear was everything required and fully up to the task. (Bringing some of your own gear is fine but not necessary). We focused on fishing for Coho Salmon but were contemplating Halibut (and Joel coached us well on the ways and means of dealing with the big guys). By GPS log we ran about 200km for both days, which was a $112 fuel bill. Could have done less distance but we were exploring and enjoying the beauty of Sitka sound. Make sure you take time to be oriented by Joel for both the boat/equipment and his fishing recommendations. 30mins at the dock is worth 100x the time on the water. We did that for both days and as a result were confident, safe and productive. Enjoy Sitka Sound and this amazing fishery! -Ted

Excellent way to explore the stunning waterways of Sitka! We were a family is six on a cruise stop wanting a real experience away from the crowds and we were not disappointed. Joel was waiting for us at the ship, took us into town to get coffees and buy lunch for our day on the boat and set us on our way. He is a super nice guy and was a wealth of information on the beautiful town and the area.The boat was immaculate and with Joel’s suggested route we had a fabulous day with dramatic scenery and wildlife spotting. By far our favourite stop! I highly recommend Sitka Self Charters.

Had a day to to self charter a boat. Joel responded quickly, was extremely helpful and made the day special.nnIf you want to explore Sitka and its many small islands and beauty, this is one of the best ways to see everything on the water.nnAffordable and unique. Sitka Self Charters is the best operator in Sitka.

What a life changing experience. We hired a self-drive boat from Joel and were able to see Sitka from the water having been given the ultimate local knowledge!! This was one of the best days of our trip through Alaska and it wouldn’t have been as truly unique without Joel’s advice and recommendations. We would urge EVERYONE visiting Sitka to book a self charter and see the real Alaska!!
