Halawa Park

My wife and I took a guided tour of Hawala Valley to Moaula Falls which started from Halawa Park. As we walk back to the fall, the guide pointed out the framework for an older civilization that occurred back in the valley years ago, it was quite extensive back then. The Moaula Falls at the head of the stream is an amazing place, the large plunge pool ideal for swimming. The lower end of the river is wide and slow and flows through Halawa Beach. Several people live along the stream and some cultivate Taro, much the way their ancestors did. Our guide described the irrigation of the fields making it possible to grow this water-loving plant.

I give it just 3 stars because my tour was canceled and no one notified us till we got there. It was a long drive from one end of the island to the other end. Beautiful views along the way, where you have to drive very carefully when you get closer to Halawa. The roads become very narrow with no rail or protection. You can literally fall off the road. The beach was mucky due to the previous nights rain. So really couldn’t enjoy. And that was also the reason why the tour was canceled. The water fall area was too dangerous. I can tell if everything worked out, it would’ve been nice.

Nice little park! Nothing to do besides meet for the guided hikes and they have restrooms that don’t smell.
