This place is absolutely breath taking! It's a gorgeous drive up a really well maintained forest road. There are restrooms here that you can use and a decent amount of parking. I was here during the start of fall so it wasn't very packed. If you get a chance and you're near the area, go take a look!

Technically speaking, it's almost 8,000 feet from the highest mountain tips on each side of the canyon down to the Snake River on the bottom, a little deceiving view-wise because of the 10 mile width of this most impressive area. Many have posted awesome views of this marvel so I'll post 2 of my more intimate Hell's Canyon shots for contrast. This is one place that never gets old to me, always refreshing, always something new. Highly recommended, worth your time investment.

Meh on the view. Such a long drive up for a view that is amazing but I expected more. The drive along the Snake River was much more interesting. Although the information up top about the geology and the space to move around is fabulous.

Well worth the drive if you like seeing nothing but wide open space. And mountains as far as you can see.nNext time I go. I'm taking a picnic lunch with us. Sit at one of the tables up there and enjoy the peace, and the view. ud83dudc9eud83cudfdeufe0f

Beautiful overlook. Not much else to do but drive up, look out at most of Hell's Canyon, then leave. If you decide to venture onto the forest road, there's a few federal campgrounds and lots of primitive areas to make camp. If you're just trying to get to more viewpoints, don't go too far. There's one bend of the road early on, maybe within 2 miles, that is the best you'll get. The rest of the drive, in my opinion, is not worth it unless you plan to stay or have some ATVs.
