Smith Street Auto Sale & Car Inspections

In February I went to have my check Engine light diagnosed that had come on without any warnings. My car was what I thought as running perfectly fine but then the gears started having major issues shifting. I went to 1 place to have the code ran and the job priced, found out it was sadly my transmission and they wanted more than my rent to do the job! So I then went to 2 additional local mechanic shops that were also outrageous and had really bad customer service skills, if not any at all! One of them acted like I wasn’t even standing there for 25 minutes after looking at me in my face 2 times. The other had kids working for them and 3 people had no masks what so ever! I assumed that the cost of a new transmission & labor were not cheap anywhere after receiving 3 quotes and was ready to throw in the towel but then a friend referred me to Smith Street and I quickly learned that not only are the prices EXTREMELY reasonably priced and affordable but that it is possible for garages to offer great customer service as well, unlike the others I visited! The amount of time it took to repair my car and the overall atmosphere of the shop were all phenomenal. I was pleased to be approached by a mannered gentleman wearing a mask and also to see that not only did they wear their masks in the desk area but also while they are working in the garage too. My car is running like a charm now!!! Thank you Smith Street auto you have a forever customer in me!

I went there to get my car inspected, and they fixed the things it needed to pass inspection, which I appreciate. However, none of the employees wore masks during a pandemic when RI was getting hundreds of new confirmed cases per day. Two of them were also smoking in the building. Exercise caution if those concern you, and you'll be fine.

Chris is hands down the most honest and patient mechanic I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I can’t say enough good things about him.nnThe owner on the other hand seems about as professional as a hemorrhoid, not a decent bone in his body. It’s a shame having such a great mechanic at such an awful shop.nnCustomer beware.

Went here to get an inspection. Was told to come in same-day, but upon arrival, was asked to return the next day. When I went back, was told I needed new front tires to pass, so waited a week for the tires to come in and was told they still hadn’t arrived yet. Went back a second time and was told they hadn’t been ordered. Went back a third time and when I pulled up was asked if I needed an oil change - I said no I’m here for tires, went for a walk while waiting on the changes, and came back to them having changed my oil but not replaced the tires. Finally on the 4th try they replaced, but made up the pricing on the fly, didn’t provide a discount for the many times I had to come back in. Said the vehicle runs great, but after taking it on the highway, it’s a little shaky because only the front two tires were replaced and the tread wasn’t matched.
