I ride my bike 25-30 miles a day, every day, predominantly on the Jordan River Trail from the far north end down to 3300 South in SLC (as well as the connecting trail in Davis County all the way to Roy). Although there are some bumpy areas in the pavement that need attention, it is a great resource that provides a safe cycling route that largely keeps me off the roads. Some people cite that there are a lot of homeless along the trail (there is), but I have never had a problem. They just want to be left alone and have never given me any problems even though I am a woman and almost always ride alone. It is a great trail and I am so glad I can easily access it. It is cooler than riding on paved roads, which can be real heat islands.
This bikeway has great potential but the signage is horrible. There needs to be clear definition of the main trail. I constantly had to refer to my GPS to find the right direction. Look at these pictures and tell me which is the main trail. It is like this all along the trail. Also, they need to tar the ditches across the paved surfaces. The bumps and wrist shock are severe.
I lived along the Jordan River for about 4 1/2 years and it was like being in the woods in the middle of the city. There were all types of wildlife there; including: ducks, geese, deer, racoons, skunks, river rats, all kinds of birds, squirrels, and beavers. I really felt like I was in the mountains. But now that all the trees, bushes and reeds have been cut down it's not really that great of a place. It's rather boring without all the wildlife and mountain side feeling. Now it's just another park in the city.
This is a great place to walk or ride a bike with regular benches and several parks along its route.
There is quite a bit of trash in some places.
Overall it is pretty well maintained.
During the day it's koo. Nite is a little scary
