Illinois Mountain Park

I was surprised to find this in the middle of Highland. You will need to find directions online, there are no signs to tell you where you are going. Trails are well marked by Scenic Hudson, you just have to watch for them. Leaves covering the trail made it a bit tricky in rocky areas- I was glad I had my walking poles and would recommend them at least for fall hikes.

It is a great place for some hiking along wooded trails. There are plenty of elevation changes along the way. There are lots of rocks and roots on the well maintained trails. The blue trail took us about an hour and a half with kids. We move pretty slow though.

It's some woods around a lake in front of a a hill side. A few hiking trails are terraced up this hillside, traversing it more from side to side than up and down. The actual top of Illinois Mountain is posted private property, and so there are no views to be had. Keep out. Trespassers will be prosecuted. No exceptions. Welcome to 'Murrka.

Great well maintained park. Meandering hiking trails also set up for mountain biking. There is also an access road to the top if you want something steeper. Decent fishing, bbqs, tennis courts, and swimming
