Wappinger Creek Greenway Trail

Surprisingly a challenging trail. Lots of steep ups and downs. The trail runs along a ridge above the Wappingers Creek. The section we hiked was about 4 miles. Parts of trail on the cliffs edge, be careful. At top, amazing view of Hudson River. Remnants of an old cemetery at top with graves dating back to 1700's.

Great trail! Lots of different terrain, great look at the creek. Went walking in winter and was very quiet and serene. Saw a Pilated Woodpecker busy looking for a snack, seemed to ignore us even though we were within 10 meters. Not difficult at all so good for all ages and fitness levels.

Great walk, only so-so signage. We stayed in New Hamberg and enjoyed a day hiking around. The views along the river and the creek were wonderful. There was some mild up and down on the creek side. Overall it is a pleasant walk in the woods, never far from homes. There were some signs near our place . An arrow pointed to the fire station but it was hard to see where to go from there. Once in Bowdon County Park, there was nothing to keep one on the Greenway. The long path following the rail line no longer goes through. There was a sign or two at the loop under Kelly Lane, but it was hard to say what was trail and what not. On the other side of Channingville Rd the trail was well marked.

Good. Limited traffic. Bring bug-spray

Love this trail! Runs right along the creek. Also good swimming spots here. Easy pathways. Beautiful area. Warning for ticks and mosquitos though! Great dog path! I think there are benches that overlook Creek too.
