One of the striking things about the waterways along the Hudson River, and the East and Harlem Rivers, is the number of abandoned and derelict structures that have been allowed to remain. This is one of them.nnMore often referred to as the ‘New York Central Railroad 69th Street Transfer Bridge’ - and why Bob Dylan or Paul Simon didn't write a hit song with that title we cannot explain - this was formerly a ferry facility for the carriage of rolling stock between Manhattan Island and the Jersey shore. Wikipedia will tell you more about it.nnIf you’re a photographer interested in industrial decay as a subject, this wreckage will provide some fine images.nnThe half-submerged debris presents as an urban sculpture, and a monument to the strenuous endeavours of another age. The shades of charcoal and russet, the rough textures of beams and girders, and the rows and rhythm of sunken piles carry the eye back over the river and down the years.
