Windmill State Park

Very nice park with lots of amenities and well-kept grounds. If I were a camper, would definitely be back. It was a great place to hop off the interstate and spend some peaceful time relaxing.

Went to view Sandhill Cranes. Park was clean and well maintained for March. Crane view hut closed due to covid though cranes could be views from your vehicle.nLake 2 had several anglers attempting there skills at catching something.nDrawback is of course the interstate noise.

Beautiful place to camp, fish, swim, picnic and hike. I love coming here!

Windmill State Park exceeded our expectations. This was our first time staying here and we did not know what to expect. There is easy access off the interstate. The roads in the campground are all paved along with each site having a paved driveway. The small lakes are nice but we did not get a chance to swim at the beach. There are clean flush toilets and 3 showers each for men and women in each building. The campsites were not too close so there is good privacy compared to private campgrounds. The campground was only 25% full at the end of August so it was delightful. The only con was there is some highway noise due to interstate only being about 1/4 mile away. This died down after midnight so it was not too much of an issue for us. I would think being in a tent might be a bit noisy unless you are a deep sleeper. A good number of first come, first serve campsites for tents. So there is a good chance you will get in even during the summer high season without a reservation if your equipment is small. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

New Superintendent this season I personally know the Super I believe he will do great things for the Park .
