The only place in Mn to see virgin timber. Super place to show children how Mn looked before everything was cut down for lumber.

I liked the short loop hike in the Lost 40. I had never been this far north but the foliage in Itasca was uninspiring. Black Duck doesn't have much going for it, but if you are in the area, it is worth the side trip. The foliage along the route from Black Duck was the best I have seen so far this season. Sept 21, 2019.
