Friendly and helpful staff. Clean & quiet. Firewood and ice available. Right on the water. Easy to get to. Very family oriented. I camped on my own while on the road, and I felt very safe. If I’m every passing through again, I would definitely go back.

Great campground! Bathrooms with one shower in each side. Very clean. Trail around the lake could be picked up right from most campsites and we loved exploring the lake with our dog. Garden of the Gods and Burden falls were pretty close. Firewood and ice for sale on site.

I almost didn’t want to write a review to keep this a hidden top notch gem of a campground. This is the best campground for both electric and non-electric camping in the state hands down! Flush toilets, antibacterial hand soap and spacious hot showers. Bathrooms are meticulously clean by campground standards. Camp sites are spaced nicely for privacy, clean and well kept up. Water is easily available and drinkable. Jennifer the camp manager is the nicest person and will help you in anyway she can to make sure you have the best experience. Ice and wood sold there. I loved that quiet times are posted from 10pm to 6am. We definitely will be back here. During Covid this was the only place we could go and felt safe.

If you like rustic and private campgrounds, then this is the one for you. The campsites with electricity seemed less private and more crowded. The primitive sites, although mostly smaller (and not very level), were really secluded. The campground offers a fantastic picnic area, a nice lake and a great hiking trail around the lake. The national forest itself is full of canyons, trails, rock climbing, historical sites and scenery. No reservations and often full, even during the fall, hunting season draws campers. I did notice a couple of reviews complaining about the host being too strict. That wasn't my experience. In my brief interactions, they were nice and constantly working hard on cleaning and clearing leaves. Enjoyed the campground, loved Shawnee National Forest.
