Wow! An incredible tour for any armchair general. Worth the drive! Loved the friendly park rangers and well kept grounds. The tour can be done by bike or car. I do not recommend walking the whole thing. The highlights for me were the graveyards, pittsburg landing, hornets nest, and shiloh church. Be sure to treat clothing to prevent ticks as they are thick! I had a few on me when I got home.
Exceptionally well made orientation film in a informative museum to kick things off. Then you drive around and explore at your pace. Nicely done.
Spent the day here with my dad and son today. Visiting from Portland Oregon. All I can say is WOW. we could feel that we were on hallowed ground. This is not a place of north vs south. This is a place of respect.nBefore you drive through the park, if you’re visiting, definitely hit the visitor center first, get the free tour map from the gentleman out front. I was expecting a battlefield. A field where a battle took place. Ignorance on my part. It’s a 13 mile self guided, driven tour in your own Vehicle. The map drives home the struggle these people went through, and by god I have a deeper understanding of what that rebel flag means to the south. Literally one of the most; if not the most, culturally enriching American experiences I’ve had in my life.nCome banging the drum to take down these monuments. I’ll fly out in a heartbeat. Seeing what I saw today, I’d give my life to protect it and know I’m on the right side history; be it sleeping like a baby in bed, or laying in my grave dead. Highly recommend
My visits to Shiloh were very relaxing and informative. It was great walking in the footsteps of my great great grandfather. I do believe Grant was correct when he said that this is probably the least understood battle of the war. Read dozens of books and articles, visited the park twice and I'm still not sure I completely comprehend just what happened there in April of 62.
This place is so humbling and a good place to learn about the history
