If you’re like most, including myself, you’re probably camping in the Elkmont campground already, so why not get out and explore a little. Truth is, you’ll never learn much sitting around the fire in a lawn chair. These mountains are calling...nThis is a cool collection of older cabins and houses from a bygone era, that most of the world has forgotten. These were mostly used as luxury escapes for the rich folks from Knoxville, and other areas, to come to on their vacations and getaways. There’s a ton of history here. Most all the dwellings have a story to tell. My personal favorite is the big house on the river.nNote: check with the camp hosts; as every once in awhile, a ranger will walk a willing group up here in high season, and give out a ton of valuable information. This is an easy hike for kids as well. You can leave your camping spot, trek over here and see everything: then cross the creek, see the graveyard, and take the old wagon trail road back to the campground... And u won’t be even be gone more than an hr or 2. So get up outta that chair, and check it all out.
