Base camp 1 is nice. But the shockaloe trail isn't. So many trees have been cut or have fallen the trail isn't visible in most places. I lost and found it several times but gave up halfway to base camp 2.

Terrific campground and day use area. $7/night or less. Stunning natural beauty. Quiet. Flowers, berries, and nuts abound. Part of a 22 mile horse trail. Big rig and trailer friendly. Toilet, water, trash on grounds. Fire pit, picnic table, grill, lantern post, and hitching posts at campsites.

Price is $7 a night which was suprising as it is no diff than any other Free campsites I have seen in other national forests across the country. A nice break from the highway driving if traveling but beware of the train tracks that parallel the campsites.

Nice sites for tents. Fire set ups awesome for cooking, mostly quiet on that end i0 00

Nice except for the train horns.
