We will never go back. We have been taking vehicles to Kens for several years. Their service started out so great. This great service has declined, in fact the last time we were there to pick up a vehicle, we were treated terrible. The guy was rude and demeaning, he acted like it was a problem we were there and treated the lady at the front counter like she was ignorant and stupid. Used to be a great place, not so much anymore.
Edit: the owner contacted my dad and sincerely apologized the same day. He informed us that the incident would be discussed. Again, I recognize a bad day can happen so I can forgive a bad interaction. I also really love local small businesses and want them to succeed.
The first time I used Ken's was an okay enough experience. They fixed my car but it made a horrible noise still. It took some convincing to get the mechanics to look at it again and they fixed it pretty quickly after that. I was overall fine with that experience.
Fast forward a few years and I just need to pick up a key for my dad. He dropped off his truck for repair, no idea why, and asked me to pick up the key. When I arrived the lady at the desk (long red hair, did not give me her name) seemed frustrated. I understand people have bad days, hence my patience with the previous interaction I had at Ken's, so I tried to be as kind and friendly as I could. (It doesn't hurt to try improving someone's day, right?) There was confusion as to what was happening, so I called my dad to find out. Apparently my dad's truck was left unlocked with the windows down and no one was at the shop. He was concerned about the security of his truck so he took it. (I don't agree with his choices, btw, just the messenger here.) The lady went in the back and talked loudly and frustratedly about me. When she returned she was acting like she was trying to intimidate me and eventually rudely handed me the keys. I politely asked if I needed to do anything else and she verbally kicked me out the door. The manners were atrocious. Don't shoot the messenger.
After stringing me along and not working on my truck for a full day, Ken tried to overcharge me to have a starter motor replaced. When I called him out for the mark up he told me to fix it myself and still charged me an excessive diagnostic fee. Was not professional or reasonable.
In reply:
I have no problem paying a diag fee when there is actual diagnosis and I am quoted a fair price. $440+tax is not a fair price for a starter replacement and you know it. And my truck never even left the stall it was parked in and was not properly diagnosed to begin with. Ken likes to charge diag fees to people even when he doesn't do any real work.
Ken is a talented guy with lots of certifications; he also has to invest in all of the equipment and computer programs to diagnose a vast array of cars… that costs a lot of money to keep up on all of the technology and it’s not lost on me).
I was very pleased with the work and Ken is a likable guy. Even if he comes across as a bit strong, his intentions are pure and he has a passion for his shop (and his customers).
After doing a routine check at my Mercedes dealer, I had a bit of an issue with my car that was hard to trace back - Ken stepped up and said he'd take care of fixing it at no cost to me! Wow - I thought that was an extremely gracious and customer oriented way to handle things. Thanks Ken.
I am so happy I have found this place. We had problems with a van and took it to 3 different places and each tried what they thought would fix it. They each were confident on what the problem was and we had to pay for each of their ideas and nothing fixed it. A friend recommended Ken. He is definitely a master when it comes to vehicles. He is very thorough and makes your vehicle his top priority.
