A lovely museum in a nicely restored home. There is an admission charge of $7 but I took the time to look at all the exhibits and it was worth it. So much local history and gorgeous donated artifacts throughout the house. Do not recommend for kids and elderly folks. Lots of stairs and fragile items not to be touched.

When Georgia was first being settled, Wilkes County was a huge boom area and had a large share of the state's population. This museum has tons of information and artifacts from Georgia's founding families that is really neat to explore and very helpful for genealogy. The African-American room is also a nice addition and offers something unique (and vital) to understanding Southern history in small, rural towns. There's a lot to see so definitely set aside at least an hour and get the guided tour.

Love this old hotel. Obviously a lot of love has gone into it's restoration.
