The Whaling Company

We just had the BEST food at the Whaling Company!! Eddie, our server, gave amazing recommendations and we loved the flounder, French onion soup, and the CHEESECAKE! Best cheesecake we have ever had... and we've had a lot of cheesecake!! The French onion soup was to die for! We live far away, but we will definitely make the trip back just to eat here!

My husband and I went on a Thursday for dinner. The place was busy and we were told a 30min wait. We only needed to wait 10minutes or so, but, I feel like they should have made us wait longer. We weren’t given the option of a booth, but we would have gladly waited even longer to sit at one.nnThey are completely understaffed, and the staff on hand had candid conversations with guests. One waitstaff in particular was very vocal about how spread thin he was and that it was unfair that he was going between all their dining rooms and should only be on one section.nnThere was a family a few tables away who arrived before we had (we walked in after), but were served much later than we were...the manager came out and apologized about the wait and that they shouldn’t hesitate to order desert as it was on the house.nn...now, this would have been a lovely gesture, but the manager didn’t hear the two waitstaff complaining a foot away from us that the dessert was going to come “out of tips”.nnOur food was okay. I enjoyed my steak and my husband liked his lobster tail, but the atmosphere was a bit too “intimate” for our liking and I have to wonder if the staff is always having a bad night, or if the working conditions are really that bad. If the latter is the case, I would rather patronize a different restaurant.nnI understand that the restaurant has been greatly affected by Covid, but at one point I wondered if the waitstaff were simply complaining to try to entice a sympathy tip.nnThis could have been a solid 4 stars if not for the unwanted, unexpected waitstaff commentary.

The food was delicious. The flounder was excellent. The service was impeccable. The desserts were out of this world. You have to order the cheesecake. It was the best I've EVER eaten. If I'm in town again I'll definitely eat here again.

We walked in to order carryout on a Friday evening, they were slammed but on top of it - very professional, were able to get my order in and up in 20 minutes tops. They brought it out to us and all of our food was great and exactly as ordered. Nice old school feel, with a mix of locals and tourists. Strongly recommended.

It was a waste of my time and money. The waitress that took my order was very nice which is the reason why I gave it 2 stars. The food was bland and my scallops were undercooked. The Cod fish was also under cooked but on a bright side my broccoli was nice and tender. The only thing I liked after adding salt and pepper. %15 was added to my total since I was ordering for pickup instead of eating in.
