Due to tour group limitations, took nearly an hour in line to get inside after we arrived at 9:30. Enjoyed the short talk inside several of the rooms downstairs. Impressive collection and presentation of muskets, swords, and period pieces inside the rebuilt structure. Enjoyed exploring the gardens, hedge maze, and various out buildings as well. Highly recommend viewing.
Group tour limitations due to COVID so lines might get a little long BUT it is absolutely worth the wait if you can get in to see it. The grounds are incredibly beautiful, well maintained and true to its historic architecture. Cannot wait to come back because I know we didn’t get to see and explore everything. Must see!
Disappointing tour. Our tour guide was not very engaging or interesting, even though half of our group were children. The building's interior was very eye-catching, but unfortunately we could have enjoyed it just as much with a casual walk-through as we did with a so-called guided tour. It was also very fast, maybe 10 minutes. The kids enjoyed the lovely gardens very much and spent a lot of time in the hedge maze out back. I wouldn't bother with this tour again, though.
Loved coming here and enjoying the historic information as well as the shopping. The ice skating was very enjoyable at merchant square. Shopping was nice even though I was there on Christmas and a lot of the shops were closed. Had a great time and enjoyed eating at Mellow Mushroom. I bought the three day pass and I do recommend planning out where your going and what your seeing each day so You can get the most of your experience. They did cancel our Ghost tour because of the cold. Never heard of such a thing but whatever. For that reason four instead of five stars for me.
Beautiful building and grounds, but very difficult to access. There is no parking for this specific location, and the roads are closed daily for at least 2-3 blocks away. The closest access was the bus drop off, and this is not a handicapped accessible option as the bus doesn't permit motorized wheelchairs. The building claims to be handicapped accessible but it is not. All the entrances had steps, and only one had a railing. This was disappointing considering it indicates otherwise on their website.nnIn regards to the actual grounds, it is hard to know if the tour was limited due to Covid, but it didn't seem to cover as much as I would have expected. There were only five rooms shown on the first floor in a guided tour. They were beautiful, and the tour guide really gave genuine insight into life there for the governor and visitors, and she was able to answer all of our questions. I also appreciated the context shared about enslaved people living there and what that experience was like.nnThe tour ended at the back of the property, and it was very confusing to find the entrance with no one around to ask for guidance. They all just seemed too busy to help. Overall, the experience would be improved if there was a bit more politeness to visitors, more signage, and more explanation of why everything was blocked off. Even the phone staff seemed irritated and impatient to recite a scripted answer and get me off the phone when I called to ask questions about how to access the bus.
