Must experience to understand our roots and culture. To understand the journey our ancestors made. I literally had chills walking knowing that this walk was made by our ancestors in shackles, neck restraints and no shoes.

It is an eye opener. Lot of history on how the slave trade started as well as the plight of slaves in that era. It is a 6 mile round-trip (3 mile each way) trail that starts in Rockett landing and ends in first African Baptist church in downtown. We did halfway from Rockett landing to Mayo bridge as it got very emotional for us reading information at every marker, plus we did not have the emotional capacity and physical energy to finish and then come back. Biking could be a good option.

Very cool. They did a good job of telling the story. Its a heartbreaking soul stirring gratitude walk.

Beautiful scenery. Perfect place for taking pictures! Also great for hiking.

Picked up the trail at Ancarrow Landing & headed to the flood wall trail & then back through the city to Ancarrow Landing. It was a beautiful low humidity late August day. Perfect hike with friends, lots of informational signage along the way. Lots of options to take different trails & explore other parts of the city. Starts in the woods but we wound through urban areas too. Great beginner level hike with multiple terrain types- covered 4+ miles, but could be lengthened or shortened
