Cascade Falls Trailhead

A Virginia Tech hiking classic. Within 30 minutes from the campus and only 4 miles out and back (total), Cascade Falls makes for a fantastic half-day adventure.nnThe main gravel/dirt trail is family and pet friendly with a gentle incline all the way to the falls. A second more technical trail runs parallel to a beautiful stream, which leads you to the falls when followed. Both trails have gorgeous views of the stream all the way up, with a bridge exactly halfway through the hike.nnThe falls are breathtaking, and there are lots of fallen logs and rocks to sit on and picnic/relax. The base of the falls is a great water hole for cooling off in the summer, but note that the water is COLD!nnThere was a $3 entry fee last time I went, which is easily worth it. If you go in a crowded and warm weekend, go early because the lot occasionally fills up.

It is definitely very beautiful. We took the lower trail and took a lot of photos along the way. The lower trail definitely has some tall stairs and hills. Love the Cascades. Great walk (high road) for those wanting leisure. Great hike (low road) for those who want a challenge. Great for the whole family!!
