Smith Mountain Lake State Park

The turtle island trail was a gem and not hard

This is an awesome state park especially since it is right on the lake. We even rented a tritoon boat for the day and took it out on the lake and the kids did some tubing behind the boat. We stayed in a cabin and it was like any other state park cabin. We will definitely be back and maybe try out the campground next time.

Park is absolutely beautiful!! My sister and I went on a 3 mile hike, including around Turtle Island. If I wasn't so worn out, we would have done more! I plan on retiring to the SML area, so I'm sure I'll go back numerous times! ❤ufe0f

Went for the first time today, a cold gray January day. Had to get out of the house and wanted to try the park hiking trails. There are several in the easy to medium difficulty range. We did the Turtle Island trail and it was enjoyable. We toured around checking out the park. I'm sure it's more scenic in spring and summer yet it appeared to be well tended. The camping area is relatively small and sites are fairly close together. Doubt we will return to camp but will probably return for another hike.

Fantastic trails and water activities, please make sure people don't litter! Lots of young folks visiting and some are less respectful to the nature than others.
