A visit to the district attorney’s office is not likely to be at the top of anyone’s list when visiting any new place because one does not make a stop at the DA’s office when things are going well. However, if contact with the 16th Judicial District District Attorney’s office is required, the office is accessible to the public and fulfills its necessary role as the legal next-step following contact with law enforcement resulting in citation or other criminalnprosecution. The 16th JD handles prosecution in Otero, Bent, and Crowley countiesnand is known as the Colorado DA’s office that successfully prosecuted a former Rocky Ford law enforcement officer for murder in 2016.
