Whitt's Storage Town

This is the worst storage EVER!!! Had my recently deceased fathers things there for quite awhile, they have a moisture problem, they had a lock and chain hanging on the outside gate but for some lazy reason (being nice) they never locked the gate, leaving the place open to thieves which struck my building in August 2019, stealing all the things I had stored of my late father!!! If you care about your items that need stored DO NOT use Whitt’s in Flatwoods Ky!!

Even though this weekend was filled with plenty of things to be thankful for, I would like to share something that happened yesterday before heading to Lexington for my graduation. I went to my storage unit to find a pair of shoes to wear to graduation only to find that it had been rummaged through and half of my things were stolen. I was barely able to walk into the unit due to my things being slung everywhere and broken. Several boxes were taken while others were left behind and empty. There were footprints all over some furniture while other pieces of furniture were broken. The storage unit next to mine did not have a lock and was left half opened showing several of MY things in that unit. One of those things had my first and last name on it which is very concerning to me. I was pleased with the quick response of the flat woods police department to file an incident report and his genuine attitude toward the situation. While the police officer was with us at the unit, a truck with two guys in it just so happen to try and pull into the driveway where we were and turned around to park and watch us. The police officer went to talk to them and found out it was the owners son. A few minutes passed and the owner also arrived to talk with us. I was very disappointed in the way he handled the situation and the way he spoke to not only me and my dad, but also the police officer. There was absolutely no professionalism or respect shown after knowing half of my things were stolen from his property. I would also like to add that upon renting this unit, the owner convinced my dad that purchasing a certain type of lock from him would be a good idea and would help prevent someone from cutting it. After research on this type of lock, it can be accessed from a master key. My lock had not been tampered with in any way which indicates that someone would have had to use a key to get access the building to take what they did.nI realize that these are material things that truly do not matter in retrospect, and for that I am grateful. What bothers me is to know that someone went out of their way to take something that was not theirs while trashing the remainder of my things. This is also an act of vandalism. I am also unhappy with the way the situation was so rudely handled by the owner. This was also a violation of my privacy and personal belongings which is a horrible feeling. Even though I have worked retail for several and have seen thievery first hand, I feel even more disgusted as this has hit me personally. That being said, I would advise anyone to not use the Whitt storage units owned by John Whitt in Flatwoods. There are also no security cameras or reliable employees at this business. We should have known better, but in a hurry to find a building, we did not think this sort of thing would happen to us. If you or anyone you know is using this business for storage, I would advise you to either check your unit or consider finding a new one. I would also caution anyone to use their own locks and even double lock the units and keep a close eye on their building. This is an honest business review that I felt very compelled to share in hopes this situation can be avoided for someone else. If I could rate this with 0 stars I would.
