Thought I'd stop back here and see what was in the area. Sure wish they had a sign posted at the road of how far it was to get back. It was 1.5 miles to get to the trailhead.

The trashcan at the bathroom was full and had a few bags stacked on top and a bit more parking would be appreciated. If the lot is full you can access the ORV trails from where they intersect the main road through the hanging rock area without much difficulty and just park on the side the road at a pull off.

I've been around a lot of different spots in Wayne National Forest, but this is probably the coolest area. The area has over 50 ponds/lakes. You can camp for free, you can fish, you can swim. Their are a lot of trails for off road vehicles, horses and mountain bikes. Their are limitless areas to hike and camp. If you want a true primitive camping experience, it's hard to beat this area. Many campsites I've been to before are just rows of grassy plots to pull up to and camp. Like that, you have no privacy and you're truly at the mercy of the other people camping on either side of you. It's a really good experience having what feels like all of nature to yourself. It's amazing to be the only one around for miles, listening to the coyotes, wolves, owls and other animals at night. Waking up to the sunrise across a lake from your camp is pretty awesome too. I can't really say enough positive reasons to visit Wayne National Forest through the Hanging Rock Recreation Area. It's definitely a place worth visiting. It makes it worth driving through Hanging Rock... just don't speed.

Great hiking trails. Easy fun navigation for young and old.
