It was not blooming in May, which was Spring time. But the huge Bougainville at the neighbor’s house was.

Historical marker inscription:nThis world famous Wistaria Vine, one of the 7 Horticultural Wonders of the World, was planted in 1894 from a one-gallon pot. Listed as the World’s Largest Blossoming Plant by the Guinness Book of World Records, it covers nearly one acre, weighs over 250 tons, and has over 1,500,000 blossoms during its five week blossoming period.nnThe vine was purchased in 1894 by Mrs. William (Alice) Brugman from the old Wilson nursery in Monrovia for seventy-five cents. Over time, the vine grew so large that it crushed the original house. Now the vine spans two back yards, on private property. It can be viewed one day a year in March during the annual Sierra Madre Wistaria Festival.

Love coming to the Wistaria festival each year. Unfortunately with constant weather changes it's hard to determine and schedule the festival for the bloom. This year it was just starting in two small places, last few years have been pretty well scheduled though. Can't blame them, the two homes schedule and open their yard to everyone each year.

It's a large plant, but the event does not time it well. Only a small part of it is blooming. A long line to get into the property. Love the live harp performance. No need to buy the shuttle ticket if you are willing to walk 1mile.

A group of us went to the Wistaria Festival last Sunday. I am from the area so I drove and raved about the amazing Wistaria they were about to see! The experience was sad. Stick branches, little bloom. Very sad. Wish they would have informed patrons prior to ticket purchase and have rescheduled to event.-♡
