Athens West State Dog Park

This listing is for the dog park, and it is that, but there are a lot of other things in this park. There is access to the bike trail, recreational equipment, community gardens, a river, an access point for kayaks, and baseball fields.nnThere is plenty of parking, but I feel like it is out of the way for some people. I'd like to see parking off of W. Union across from the Habitat for Humanity building. You can park in the lots behind the businesses across the street, but I don't think it is legal. The Habitat building has all of 4 spots which is kind of ridiculous, but better than nothing.

Really bummed. In the summer time there were hoards of mosquitos here that made it absolutely unbearable to hang out with dogs. There is a fountain that is probably used for drinking water and bathing dogs but it seems to be misused and creates a swamp that smells horrid (most likely combined with dog feces and pee). Having 2 dogs, it would be nice to have a quality dog park to go to but this was just miserable. People are all very nice and are responsible dog owners. I felt very safe with my puppy, as well as my older dog. Please, Please, Please fix the water/ swamp problem!

The Athens dog park is great! There are tons of trees to pitch a hammock and even some equipment for the dogs to play around on. Upon entry there is a double gate system to keep your dog or other people's from escaping. It would get 5 stars but after a rain, it can get a little muddy (soupy in some areas) so plan around that if you mind muddy paws!

I have enjoyed this park for many years. The bike path winds around the park, offering sights of the river, the baseball fields, the community garden, and the driving range. Most recently, I have been enjoying the West Side Dog Park. While the park is often muddy, there's plenty of green grass for your dog to run and play. On a sunny day, there are almost always other dogs there and the owners are all lovely too.

I love this little park but I al and to say that it isn't well taken care of. The grass is very high,the trash cans are running over and someone drove into the middle of the picnic tables and tore 2 of them up.. I don't know when this happened but it still hasn't been cleaned up. The bike bath is lovely so it saddens me to see it's not being taken care of.
