Beware: swarming mosquitoes. I’m sure this place is lovely. However, when we visited in early September, we were attacked by swarms of biting mosquitoes. We all had applied insect repellent (not with DEET since we have young children) and it did nothing to deter them. Thinking the beach would be safe, we ran there and continued to be basically covered in mosquitoes. This sounds like a bunch of whining city people, but after 10-15 minutes I have probably 20 bites. So if you arrive and see mosquitoes on your windows, don’t get out of the car. You’ll thank me, believe me!

I loved this 3 mile round trip hike. To see an abandoned light house on the tip of a peninsula is a rare treat. You can see Shelter Island form here. The small rocks make it easy to walk on. The water is blue and the trees are green
