Moore Gordon D

Gordon Moore taught me guitar in the 80s and 90s. On classical guitar i insisted on playing free strokes instead of rest strokes in several pieces. He let me know about it, but as a teenager i was stubborn. I now play the pieces well, and it's thanks to the echoes of that advice many years ago

I spent 7 years driving over an hour each way every week to study with Gordon. I practiced 20 hours a week. I was the most dedicated student anyone could want. I always thanked Gordon for extra time and told him how much I appreciated him. I recorded every lesson, took notes on my recordings and studied my notes while falling asleep. I had been warned that he had an ego and could be moody. I never had a problem with him until 7 years into lessons. I came in one day so proud that I had gotten my right hand down and then Gordon asked why I continued to play a stroke wrong. I innocently asked him to please let me know when I am doing something wrong so I don’t keep doing it wrong without realizing. He went off on me how I never listen or pay attention. He then picked on every single note or strum I played and continued to tell me how I do not listen or pay attention. He kept it up so I said I wasn’t going to sit and take it so he said, “GET OUT!” All that time, money, dedication, commitment all wasted on his ego. He accused me of being easily offended when it was he who was offended. There are way better teachers out there who truly care about their students, who don’t spend 20 minutes ranting about how much they don’t give a f..k. about anything. That was unfortunately caught on one of my recordings. Often the money for your “lesson” goes for a rant or psychology session. Do not be fooled into thinking Gordon is your friend. I was a fool.

Gordon taught me 15 years ago when I was in high school. Very knowledgeable and talented guitar teacher. Loves hazelnut coffee.

Gordon Moore is honestly one of the greatest, most interesting, talented and wise people I've ever met.
