Mendon Center Elementary School

Mendon Center is well run, organized, and high performing, as one would expect from a Pittsford school. However, it is worth noting that the information on the district website regarding class sizes is misleading at best. Because Mendon Center is a large school the maximum size is more likely to be reached for classes (26 students for K-3 and 28 for 4-5) while the four other smaller elementary schools in the district can end up with much smaller classes (17/18 students per class). This information is not available publicly and no tours or information is allowed until a purchase contract on a house in the district is provided. The district website posts the following chart (Feb 2016):nGrade Level and Average Class Size:nK-2t 20n3-5t 22n6-8t 23n9-12t 22nHowever the five 1st grade classes this year(2015-2016) at MC are all 24/25 kids per class. The 2nd grades are similarly sized. Therefore, if the averages are correct, the four other schools in the district must have much fewer kids per class. My high rating reflects the excellent teachers and specials(gym, art, music, library, computer lab) but is not the highest because of class size.
