Hide-A-Way Restaurant

Awesome small town restaurant. Feels like a mix between a diner and a restaurant. It has a great atmosphere (especially since they recently remodeled). They have amazing wings that are big and delicious (75 cents on Monday nights). This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the area

Stopped in for an early dinner. Just a couple minutes off I86 Hide-A-Way is a nice little place. I had the early bird fish fry and the wife had the broil. Her chowder was thick and warm. The fish flaky and flavorful. My fish was huge and just enough fries to make it a good choice. Service was excellent and they are taking COVID-19 seriously although the bar area is a little snug. Lots of friendly locals. Added to our list in the Southern Tier.

Went there in the past probably like 3 years ago and it was just OK....today Feb 13 2021 went back and LET ME TELL YOU it was outstanding....the atmosphere the staff very friendly just was a wonderful time my husband and I had. We had an appetizer fried pickels, prime rib for my husband I had shrimp scampi with rice...it was absolutely GREAT...desert we shared peanut butter pie it was hands down the BEST we have ever had....BTW all the food is homemade on the premise so it does take a little bit longer to have dinner. So if your looking for a quick stop I'd suggest eatting at the bar.

Very good food BUT there is an unposted surcharge on take out orders. My in-laws have been going there weekly for some time now. Normally they run a tab between drinks and food. When it comes time to pay the bartender takes the money from the money on the bar and then they are generously tipped. Well the other day they went and got the early bird fish fry to go. Had several drinks while waiting but paid for them separately. When the food bill arrived my Mother in law asked to see it and the waitress/bartender then states there is a $4 per dinner surcharge for to go orders! PER DINNER! Now in my opinion, a small fee of $1 or less is common for the to go container but $4 per dinner? To top that off, the fish fry comes with Fish, Coleslaw and a roll PLUS your choice of TWO sides. They chose 2, one being soup as they had many times before and were charged an ADDITIONAL $3.50 for a side included with their meal! So, in total an additional $7.50 PER MEAL!!nNO where is this posted and it was only brought to their attention when they asked to see the bill. They are/were regulars there. Not anymore. Personally I feel this was a deceptive thing and they are older folks who felt they could trust the people there having been there so often but I guess that is not the case. I wonder just how many times this was done to them and others and this is why I am letting others know. This pandemic has been hard on us all but to take advantage of good paying, regular customers is just wrong and no one was willing to make right by them either.nnI will continue to share this in my Google reviews as well where my photo's and reviews have been seen by over 1 million ppl now. There is no excuse for this and its not just about the money but about breaking a trust one has when they put their money on the bar and expect the bartender or waitress to take only what is owed. That it is only right to post upcharges on items if they exist and to reimburse money owed when wrongly charged for them...
