1 Walnut Chinese Restaurant

NEVER AGAIN - NOT WORTH ITnWe started ordering from 1 Walnut after the 2ND TIME WE FOUND HAIR IN HUNAN WOK’S (Cranford) FOOD!nWe just tried 1 Walnut again after 3 or 4 years because our go to restaurant was closed.nnWe boycotted 1 Walnut because the owners got really weird every time we placed an order by repeating, “you pay cash, ok, you pay cash,” after I said I am paying with a card. The restaurant accepted and accepts cards. I did not have cash on me especially on a Friday nights after 4 kids hit my wallet! So, after stating I don’t have cash repeatedly, they finally said ok and took the credit card information. The following week, the same demand for cash and I said if the restaurant is switching to cash only, then I’ll go to the bank. The reply was that they still take cards but want cash. Ok, what the ??nI know there was a family member getting married so maybe they needed cash? Haha! After that I don’t like arguing with people who prepare ok food so we boycottedn1 Walnut. It was just too weird and annoying.nnSo I thought I remembered the food was ok, but boy was I wrong. We ordered from 1 Walnut February 2021 and I can’t believe we did! We boycotted them for a reason and WE WILL NEVER EVER ORDER FROM 1 WALNUT AGAIN! We ordered pork LoMein, pork egg foo young, chicken and garlic sauce, egg rolls and coconut shrimp.nThe chicken and garlic sauce, sauce was way too sweet and thick.nThe coconut shrimp was Heavily breaded small shrimp to look like larger shrimp and the coconut sauce was really good.nLoMein was bland and ok.nnI ordered pork egg foo young and I received chicken egg foo young. I called and said, “I received chicken egg foo young (I think eggs and chicken are gross for some reason) and would like pork egg foo young that I ordered”.nThe man on the phone replies, “so what, eat the chicken, can’t you eat chicken”.nI responded, “if I wanted to eat chicken, I would have ordered chicken”, to which he replied, “you can eat the chicken”.nAgain I replied, “I don’t eat chicken egg foo young and I would like pork”.nHe finally said, “OK and you return the other one!” and I replied, “no problem, thanks!”nAfter I hung up I realized I should’ve just said credit me instead of having somebody angry re-making my food. I was so mad at myself for even ordering from here again!nn~Hmmm? Chinese restaurants in Cranford ask for the food back if it’s an error on their part. What do they do with the food? Do they try to resell it or reuse it? Teehee! I’ve always wondered that. Other types of restaurants just say keep it and they will credit you or replace the item, esp. during COVID!nnYes, I do think people will spit in your food. When I got the pork egg foo young I threw it out after trying a few bites anyway because it was so bad! It was full of grease, tons of peas and carrots and undercooked giant onion pieces, and way too many vegetables. I eat vegetables all the time but this had very little pork and very little egg and all vegetable and oil.nn*Bottom line we will never order fromn1 Walnut again because their awful food, their awful customer service, and their awful attitude.nn*Dim Sum II on Eastman is still the best. East Wok on Centennial is good.

Not bad, pretty average for Chinese takeout. Ordered delivery only so far, specials were good (sesame chicken and sweet and sour) but the egg rolls and dumplings were pretty greasy and not as good.

last night was the first time in this fine restaurant. But It is surely not the last. We enjoyed the evening a lot with the attentive service, with the excellent meal and wine and with the honest price. We will absolutely return there soon.

They serve large dishes and for convenient rates. helpful staff members. Keep up the good work.
