Ready interesting place. Location was most interesting... It's behind a lot of construction and old buildings, on a windy road that makes you think 'there's a drug deal going on here..'. I'd say stay away from the area in the off hours, as some cars came and parked in the lot while we were there at closing and the people just stayed in their cars... Really seemed sketchy..nnBut the memorial itself! Tucked away at the end of the road is one of the most unique memorials I've ever seen. You have your steel beam from the Twin Towers, but the Tear Drop itself is very well built, very large, and very interesting! I have no idea why it's tucked away so far from anyone's view (maybe because it was a gift from Putin and Russia?) but it's one of the nicest memorials I've seen! More points because we were the only two people at the site and got to enjoy it all to ourselves with a nice view of the city lights coming on at dusk! Hours were from dawn to dusk, and we saw a police care come racing down the road, presumably to shut the doors at the end of the day, but it made us feel a little safer to know they look out for the area as the memorial is in a suspicious place.. Great memorial, no one else there, really unique compared to other memorials and larger than most (it was really tall), I'd say if you're hunting for memorials to visit, you have to see this one as it's one of the most unique, and uniquely placed, I've ever seen!

Judging from all the photos I feel like I enjoyed an unusual, if not unique perspective, in visiting the memorial from the water via kayak last week, during a trip visiting the Robbins Reef Lighthouse. It is a beautiful monument.

Little hidden park at the end of the cruise ship terminals. It will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere in an industrial area but, just keep going : )nGet there a little before sunset so you can see the sun reflect the beautiful copper color of the memorial. Stay until a little after dark for when the monument is lit and get a great view of lady liberty, empire state and of course tower 1. Great sized parking lot and porta potty was open. Benches to sit and some grassy areas facing the city where you can bring a blanket or chair. Very peaceful as long as there is no industrial sounding noise coming from the area.

This is a beautiful gift from a Russia that has shown its respect to a grieving nation for its tremendous loss. In times of grieving we all come together, I just wish there would be more of this at all times.

This location is a hidden gem. For children they can view and awe over the huge cargo ships unloading. For couples they can cozzy up viewing the skyline of NYC. Or walk hand in hand around the memorial. Truly this location is a. Hidden gem. Because driving to it can not be seen from any prominent highway. Enjoy the location and take your time. I know I did.
