West Essex Trail

Fun for snowshoeing. Going to run there when it melts

Easy enough for kids and single speeds, 6mi end to end. The hills are mostly gentle sloped so my 1st and 5th graders made handy work of the trail. It was just long enough of a ride that the kids didn’t Birch and moan which is a win anyway in my book. Needless to say both kids were worn out after the 1-hr ride. Enjoy!

Nice trail. It used to be a former railroad line (The Caldwell Branch) but the county stripped everything rail related to it. No signs, no markers...nnThe county has the end of the West Essex Trail at Arnold Way. This is NOT the start (or end depending where you start from) Arnold Way is a private property. Once you reach Fairview Ave, you have reached the end. The rail line continued beyond, however this current trail does not. The County has tried to acquire the land that reaches the whole length of the old rail line, but due to some complications, they were unable to.
