Weigand Campground

We stayed here for 3 nights while traveling to Mount Rushmore. Our lot was #26 and although it was a few hundred feet away from the water, the view was lightly blocked by trees. With that said, this lot and the one next to it, would be perfect for 2 families as the lots are in an area by themselves with decent space.nnIt also has good trails going along the lake all the way to the marina. The marina had a pizza and ice cream place (although they were closed due to Covid19 restrictions) and overall the park was clean.nnThe beach was also clean with plenty of space for everyone. I went kayaking to the campground next to Weigand and the water was calmed and peaceful. We even saw a bald eagle nest in one of the trees.nnThe only reason we are giving it 4 starts, it’s because the park only had 1 area to get fresh water and there was one 1 dump station. So in the morning while everyone is trying to leave, the line to use the dump station can be long while you wait. FYI, there is another dump station by the army corps of engineers that is free to use.

Stayed in east campground. Bathrooms are ok but alot of cobwebs and bugs stuck in them, could have been swept down and cleaned up a little better. Could use a few more bigger shade trees on some of the camper pads. Was very hot this week.

This was a great place to go and spend the weekend. We were hoping to catch the Perseid meteor shower but clouds didn't cooperate. It didn't really matter though, we had a great time at the beach; sitting around a camp fire, and hanging out in a relaxing party of the country.nnThe tent sites are great; not to close together, and the one we had was tucked under some great shade. Easy access to water and restrooms made it feel like we weren't really roughing it. We will definitely make a pilgrimage back her next year.
