A J Acres Campground

Run down. Dirty. Crammed. People are rude, including the staff. Screaming kids at the playground until midnight. Lots of drinking. Definitely a Walmart like atmosphere. Beach was gross. Bathrooms old. Showers only work if you hold the button down the whole time.

We purchased a camper last fall. Planned on using it a lot this year. This was our first time here. Location was fine. 40 miles from our house. I do like the mature oak forest this campgrounds is in.nThat’s it for positives.nNegatives:nStaff rude and not helpfulnVery poor signage on the propertynNo grass. All sand.nRoads are bad and will turn to mud in the rain.nSites are not level. Power and water very poorly placed on sites.nSeasonal sites look terrible. Old rundown and junk everywhere.nGolf carts flying all over the place.nBathrooms not clean. Poorly vented.nWe might leave early.nVery hillbilly redneck atmosphere here.nWe will NOT be back.

Showed up tonight for our reserved site. Couldn't find our site as they were not numbered well. Our neighbor had their vehicle parked in our spot; luckily they were there otherwise we would have waited a long time. The site would have maybe worked for a pop-up sized camper; not our 30' 5th wheel. Uneven dirt sites, had to try to level one side with three boards under tires. Then to find out the electrical was to the front of the site and could not reach. If the lady at the desk would have sent us in the other way, maybe we could have pulled in differently. Decided it wasn't worth to even turn it around and reset as our slide out would have been on top of the neighbor's awning! Called it quits and now on the road headed towards a rest area near North Dakota. Do not stay here even for a night unless you are looking to do some heavy partying, enjoy golf carts zooming around all the time (parked in the middle of the road), kids out running around, etc. Don't even care that I am out $42. I did not want to even try to sleep there.

This review is more of a warning!! I was looking for a new place to camp with the family and found this place on the web. Website made it look so inviting and clean and family friendly. Unfortunately the website is very misleading. Upon arriving we were shocked at the overall condition of the place. First the road in is in terrible shape. Anything over 5 mph and you will rattle the teeth right out of your head. Second when you arrive there is no great place for you to pull the camper over out of the way for check in. Thirdly the office was dark and uninviting. That was just getting through the gates. Upon being assigned our spot no clear directions were given as to how to locate the spot just a squiggly highlighter line on a map. We then set off on the adventure of finding our spot and this is where the shocking part I spoke about at the beginning comes into play. The overall condition of the campground was horrendous. Basically the place looks like it has been forgotten about. The trash was overflowing out of the garbages onto the ground. bags were leaking filth all over due to what I can only imagine was from animals getting to the trash. The spots were unkempt no grass to be seen. The living conditions of what I can only guess were permanent residents looked like something out of a horror movie. We pulled up towards our spot and promptly drove straight back to the office to get a refund and then proceeded to leave the campground to go find a different place to camp. The refund process took about 45 minutes and during that time I noticed the clientele of the campground was primarily made up of transient construction workers and those who seem to live there full time. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY!!! Please avoid this place if your looking for a place for you and the family. There are many other really nice campgrounds around the area.

I was dissatisfied overall. The bath houses were ok at best, no privacy in the showers. Electric hookups are just randomly placed, I in fact had to drive in my back in site to be able to plug in. The fish cleaning house looked like something out of a horror movie. Screens ripped off the windows an doors had it filled with yellow jackets, flies and mosquitos. The floor was muddy and had maggots crawling in the ground. I didn't want to look at the rec hall, it was overrun with weeds and looked unsafe to enter. Poorly managed campground I would not recommend staying there.
