Moving to the community, our “regular nationwide big bank” home mortgage department apparently didn’t need our business as they couldn’t get back to us. A friend suggested calling Farmers State Bank of Hamel.nnRick was able to make room for us, and amid his schedule still made us feel like part of the community. His attention to detail and responsiveness was amazing!nWe just received a call, suggesting we look at our mortgage because the rates have dropped. By refinancing, we’re saving thousands over time because of his attention to his customers. We’re glad Farmers hires awesome people!

Hands down, the best bank in the whole world. You cannot find better customer service anywhere. Everyone is so friendly and warm and they know you by name. They go out of their way to be extra helpful and accommodating too. That's just how it goes here in Hamel.

I am out of the country and can not take money out of my account even though I called them multiple times to make arrangements providing dates and locations before traveling. There is no 1-800 toll free number to call to get ahold of them and the number on the debit card says to call your banking institution if there are issues. If I was not traveling with another person I would be stuck in a foreign country with no access to money. The application and the website are both inaccessible from outside the country. The bank cares more about protecting itself from paying insurance premiums in the event it is liable for identity fraud than it does providing a viable service to its customers. They also have predatory fees that if your checking account goes below 10 dollars they will charge you ten dollars which can result in additional overdraft fees even though the fee that put you over came from the bank. The bank literally charges the fee in order to charge another overdraft fee. I recommend doing some research and choosing a bank with free checking and more advanced technology (website and applications) before you open an account here.
