It's pretty cool to see it, but do be educated and get all the sides of the story! And dress warm.
The viewing area is at the end of a long dirt road. No matter what time, it gets pretty packed which makes viewing difficult. Lights are best viewed in total darkness. So between car headlights and people's cell phones... It completely distracts from the experience. The lights themselves are amusing. I still don't get the phenomena that causes them, but in gist its car lights from a nearby highway.
I was skeptical until I saw the light after 15 minutes.
I went there many years ago (40 ish) and what I saw then was different when compared to what I saw a few weeks ago. Back then I saw a light the would start out dim and low then would rise through the trees getting brighter and changing colors from yellowish white to red to green. The light would waver back and forth then would eventually dim before dropping down and disappearing.nWhat I saw a few weeks ago looked more like the headlights and taillights of vehicles in the distance. I know that some have debunked these very lights saying they were from vehicles. All I can say is what I saw 40 years ago was not from a vehicle. A guy who was also there a few weeks ago said he also saw a light a couple years ago that matched the description of what I saw 40 years ago and that it even approached fairly close to him.nAll in all I was disappointed with what I saw a few weeks ago but was mesmerized by what I saw in the past. I hope to go there again and see what version is presenting itself!
The best part about it was meeting the people there and the trip. The bugs are unbelievably bad, we go camping in a swampland every year and this area is worse than that. The light is very tiny, pretty much stationary aside from flickering in and out. Overall I wouldn't go again.
