I give the facility itself a decent rating. It's very secure, and easy to maneuver and park our trailer there. But i give 1 star to the way they run the place. These people operate with a very antiquated bookkeeping system and do not clearly state their policies. When my wife went in to cancel our rental space and get the $50 key deposit back, they refused to refund it because we had technically gone past the due date a few days. My wife had no idea, and neither did the owners until they opened up their binder and looked it up. Any other business in today's world would send an email reminder, or at least call you if payment was overdue, but they don't operate that way. Not to mention the only payment option is by paper check. All of it added up is pretty inconvenient by today's standards and leads to problems like people not getting their $50 deposit back. It's a shame. We were going to store our rig there every summer, but them keeping the deposit without warning has really turned us off.
I have had my 26 ft camper stored at Lakes Rv and have had nothing but positive to say about them. They go out of their way to be helpful and nice. I feel my RV is very safe and secure. I like being able to enter whenever I want with the key option. I don’t think you will find this kind of secure safe storage anywhere in mid Michigan. It’s so convenient and right up the street from my house. As long as I have an RV I will store it here. Thank you Lakes RV Storage!
Rude and unprofessional
Shady, dishonest Business practices. I prepaid for 6 months storage and paid $40 key deposit. After 2 months passed, I had an accident with my motor home and found out it would be in the shop for the foreseeable future. I called them and told them I no longer needed the storage space and asked for a refund. They said they don’t do that. I accepted that. The 4 months passed, by 2 weeks, and I got a call from them asking did I want the space any more. I said I still didn’t need it because my rig was STILL in the shop. The Woman owner asked if I would be returning the key. I said I would return it the next day. I showed up the next day and returned the key. She had me sign out as moved out. I started to leave and remembered my $40 key deposit. When I asked for my deposit, she said “I’m keeping it.” I asked why and she said the rent was due 10 days prior. I said why didn’t you call when it was due? She said that was up to me. I said I would have if I needed the space.nnThey called me once to have me move my rig 6 more inches to the side. I asked if they had a problem from the rig next to me and She said that she liked it better where she put me.nnThey also only take actual checks and cash- no electronic payments accepted or even available for a premium. No e-mail notifications. No mail notifications.
I am very happy about storing my RV at Lakes RV Storage. I am confident that my RV is secure there because of their tight security (dogs on premises, fencing & lock, and their in/out system). If you don't have a key, it is more difficult to get your RV when you want it. However, you can get your own key with a deposit. This makes it easy for you to come and go as you need on the weekend and after hours. As an additional bonus, the owner can fix just about anything on a RV! Would definitely recommend.
