I had not been here in 25 years and was very impressed with everything this park has to offer! In Winter months , the tubing hill is very popular with a cozy warming hut. In the Summer, a small beach and large grassy area is adjacent to the little lake. Playground equipment is in a safe enclosure. A small water park is available for young children not far from the beach. And , always available are the hiking/ biking trails that connect to Potter Park Zoo and Old Town ! I didn't see a Hawk , but I'm hoping to return to Hawk Island Park soon to find one ! Lol !
WATCH OUT FOR SPEEDING BIKE RIDERS - especially if you have kids.nOther than that, it is a very nice place. The paved trail around the lake and in the woods are very nice, but again BE AWARE OF THE SPEEDING BIKE RIDERS!! The paved paths need NO SPEEDING SIGNS.
It was our first time out since COVID-19 and let me tell you the kids had a blast. We were coming from Grand Rapids and the time slots for the holiday was all booked in the afternoon so had to get an earlier time. I purchased tickets online so check in was easy. Only one per group can check in. It wasn't many people which was great. Ad it was more groups that stayed together. We got there late so we only were able to enjoy 1hour of tubing but overall ready to go back again.
Very cool trails that I discovered last year behind the lake. There is also a cute dog park that runs parallel. Very cool plants and tons of cute deer and turtle sightings.
We were here last night for snow tubing and had an amazing time. Hawk Island is more reasonably priced than most other snow tubing I've seen in MI. There was a fire to warm up, a moving sidewalk to take you up the hill, single and double tubes, large lanes that a group of 14 of us all went down at once, and the staff was friendly. 10/10 would recommend!
