I have used this park to hike, cross country ski, and swim.nThe 3.5 mile loop around the lake is well marked and scenic with many places to park. It can become muddy in wet seasons. The horse trails are also enjoyable to hike although not marked as well.nnThe XC ski trails are ungroomed with no rentals available but there are trails accessible to all skill levels and a plowed parking area.nnI have spent some time foraging (limited luck) in the areas surrounding the main park and saw a lot of wildlife and never felt lost. Underrated park.nnThe lake is clean, the sand is nice, sand it is usually pretty busy. Plenty of equipment for rent. Limited shade
We camped at the Beachwood walk in sites at the Ionia state recreation area - we were very surprised to find out upon arrival that the sites were walk in only, as it didn't specify this anywhere in our confirmation, website, or at check in. There were almost no signs to get to the campsites - you have to park at the disc golf course. There was also no source for potable water at the camp!nThat said, they were beautiful, fairly private sites, and the lake and area were gorgeous. We had a good time kayaking and relaxing!
Beautiful place to hike. They also have a disk golf course that we notice lots of people playing.
Horseback riding here is awesome! They have camping with and without horses ♡. The people here were awesome! After being cooped up, it was nice to see people out having fun respecting other's and there space! Very nice time here♡♡♡♡♡
We stayed in the cabin. The grounds and cabin were less than clean upon arrival. Litter from confetti and cigarettes in the grass. Sticky mess in the double bedroom on the floor, fan, and bed. Broken shower head and toilet seat as well. The ranger did come fix the shower head and toilet within 24 hours. Sessions Lake gave the whole family swimmer's itch. The private beach wasn't useful because of this. Goose poop everywhere. Absolutely no shade at all. The best thing we did was hike the trails and play in Sessions Creek. We won't be back.
