This memorial is dedicated to military members who have served in many conflicts in America's past (and current). The most visible portion is an erect stone marker with a quote from, I believe, President John F. Kennedy. There are also three flagpoles which are used to display the U.S. flag, the State of Michigan flag, and a POW (Prisoner of War) flag. The main 'entrance' to the site is located near the bank of the Saginaw River, and is flanked by two large artillery shells (unsure if actual original shell-casings, or replicas). A circular walk surrounds the site, and located just inside that walk, scattered throughout, are stone-mounted plaques describing various conflicts (such as World War II, the more recent Iraq conflicts, etc.).nThere are no special facilities here, other than the normal park ones (restrooms, pavilion, drinking fountains, etc.) - and I'm guessing those are only open during park hours.nAs a side trivial note - the Friendship Fountain, located across the river, is aligned with this Memorial. I've heard from local newspaper reporters that this was intentional - and once you visit the site and see the views this is very easy to believe.nOne final note. I first noticed this while viewing various city sites on Google Earth: this Memorial is actually located within a star-shaped plaza (only discernible from an aerial view). This is, I'm assuming, intended to represent the standard military five-pointed emblem.
